WITH reference to the article about Jack Rowley in the A-Z of West Midland Football in The Bugle (May 22 edition), there would appear to be an error in the number of goals he scored while playing for Manchester United.

Jack played 424 competitive games for United, made up of 380 league appearances, 42 FA Cup and 2 FA Charity Shield matches.

In all he scored 211 goals for the Manchester club, being their fourth highest goal scorer behind Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Wayne Rooney.

Jack (Gunner his nickname) Rowley was a prolific striker and my boyhood hero, and was the reason I became a Manchester United fan when I was six years old in 1948.

Colin Brownhill.
