THE austerity of the Great War was not long passed, and the hungry if celebrated Twenties were just in their infancy, but that didn’t prevent these Wulfrunian wenches from turning a few heads when at their place of work.

Even the girls in overalls managed to look the part, showing off stylish hair-do’s and stocking-covered legs.
These young, attractive working girls of circa 1920 were photographed, so the sender believes, at Villiers in Blakenhall, Wolverhampton, the factory famous for the design and manufacture of motorcycle engines in particular.

Second from the left on the front row is, he thinks, his mother, Trixie Smith, who had a long and interesting life, being born in Natal just after the end of the Boer War, when her father was a serving soldier, before settling with her family in Wolverhampton.
