Historical events lined up at Black Country Museum

BLACK Country Living Museum have announced a full line-up of fun events for this year.

From Plots to Plenty: Saturday, April 12 - Sunday, April 13: This joint event with Winterbourne House and Gardens, Birmingham, will focus on Victorian food growing techniques.

Black Country Goes Green: Saturday, April 12 - Sunday, April 27: Get hands on making bath bombs in Doo's Chemist and find out what would have been growing in the different gardens around the museum.

Tug Boat Gathering: Saturday. May 3 – Monday, May 5: Tug boats from near and far will make a rare appearance at the Black Country Living museum.

Red By Night celebration: Saturday, May 17: Along with hundreds of European museums, galleries, libraries and heritage sites, the Black Country Museum will open its doors after hours for this special evening event. This is by advance booking only.

Sweet and Treat: Saturday, May 24 – Sunday, June 1: This May half-term, to tie in with the re-launch of our sweet-shop boiler, visitors will be able to see demonstrations of traditional sweet making; try their hand at traditional board and street games; and learn about other old treats.

Black Country Weekend: Saturday, July 12 – Sunday, July 13: A weekend to celebrate the region.

1940s Weekend: Saturday, July 19 – Sunday, July 20: Dress up or simply experience the 40s spirit. The weekend also includes a 1940s Saturday evening which is an advanced booking only event.

Summer Holiday Activities – 'Preparing for War': Saturday, July 19 – Sunday, August 31: Children will get involved in drills, giving demonstrations of 1914 cookery and offering other craft events.

Festival of Black Country Vehicles: Sunday, July 27: See the largest rally of Black Country manufactured vehicles at the museum.

Candlelit Commemoration: Monday, August 4: This evening service of reflection – as part of our programme to commemorate the centenary of the First World War - will be centred around the Museum's Chapel and the War Memorial (the wider museum site will not be open). Admission will be free of charge but by pre-booked ticket only.

Family Summer Night at the Museum: Saturday, August 16: Family is the key word here – bring the whole bunch along for a half-price evening of pure fun, fun, fun! This is an advance booking only event.

World War One centenary: Saturday, August 30: Our commemorations will culminate in a day of street theatre, storytelling and music based in our historic canal side village.

The Locksmith's House, Willenhall: Saturday, September 13: As part of the national Heritage Open Days scheme, the Locksmith's House will throw open its doors for free.

Centenary of West Bromwich buses: Saturday, September 13: See the surviving West Bromwich buses as they are driven around the site to celebrate the centenary of the first bus service in West Bromwich.

Black Country Night: Saturday, September 13: Our performers, musicians and comedians will provide the entertainment while you indulge in typical Black Country fare - see yow there!

Breaking Chains: Saturday, October 18: We'll be ensuring the legacy of the Women Chainmakers of Cradley Heath - who in 1910 went on strike for ten weeks and won the first ever minimum wage - lives on.

Horrible Black Country Histories: Saturday, October 25 - Sunday, November 2: Horrible histories are set to disgust and delight with a Halloween themed Gore and Grime Trail.

Halloween Nights: Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1: Visit the museum's eerie gas-lit village where little devils and mini ghosts and ghouls can trick or treat in safety along the museum's cobbled streets

Remembrance Service: Tuesday, November 11: The Springfield Brewery war memorial honours former employees who both served and lost their lives in both world wars at 10.30 am at the Black Country Living Museum. Please note the rest of the museum will be closed to visitors.

Santa Hunts: Saturday November 29, Sunday, November 30, Saturday, December 6, Sunday, December 7, Saturday, December 13, Sunday, December 14, Saturday, December 20 and daily until Wednesday, December 24: This is an advance booking only event.

Christmas at home with the Edwardians: Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6: Experience an Edwardian-style Christmas. This is a ticket only event and is at The Locksmith's House, Willenhall.

Victorian Christmas Evenings: Friday, December 19 - Tuesday, December 23: Enjoy traditional Christmas entertainment. This is an advanced booking only event,
