WE are asking for Bugle readers' support to ensure the Church Commissioners in London know that the people of Dudley really do want St John's, Kates Hill, Dudley, to be re-opened and restored.
The Diocese of Worcester has recommended to the Church Commissioners that St John's be formally closed and a lease given to us, St John's Church Preservation Group. We have been working towards this moment for almost seven years.
Because even one objection can make the whole thing have to go through even more process we are appealing for support letters or emails to ensure that any objections would be overwhelmed by support letters. We have 79 support letters and emails so far but we would like the response to be even better than that.
We are appealing to Bugle readers to send an email or letter, and also to ask friends and family who might also consider sending similar support to do the same. Letters from couples or family groups only count as one letter, but several letters sent from different people in one envelope is acceptable (postage costs!).
Suggested wording might be along the lines of:
Your name and address and date:
Dear Katie Lowe,
I support the proposal to close St John's Church, Kates Hill, Dudley, and give its lease to St John's Church Preservation Group.
A couple of lines about why you are supporting – family connections, historic importance, want to worship there, want to see it back in use by the community etc. Include your own family connections if you wish, if there are any.
Yours sincerely, (Your name).
This can be sent by email to email@example.com – she will acknowledge your email by post or by post to Katie Lowe, Pastoral, Church House, Great Smith Street, London, SW1P 3AZ.
The deadline for submissions is February 17.
You can view the proposal in full at www.ccpas toral.org via the Pastoral Division and Draft Pastoral Scheme and Orders online.
Hard copies of the scheme are available in our drop-in centre next door to St John's Church, open Monday to Friday 9.30am-4.30pm and Saturdays 10am-5pm. Thank you.
