RE the article on George Salter & Co in the Black Country Bugle (March 6 edition).

On a recent holiday to see family on Vancouver Island, my wife and I visited Salt Spring Island, one of the Gulf Islands in the Straits of Georgia between mainlands British Colombia, Canada, and Vancouver Island.

Upon entering a restaurant we observed hanging on the wall a Salter Circular Balance.

The inscription reads. No 20, Salters Trade, Spring Balance, Silvesters Patent, British Made, To Weigh 200lb By 1lb.

The distance from West Bromwich to Salt Spring Island is 4,639 miles.

Worldwide indeed!

F A George,

22 Dorset Road,

Heath Hayes,
