RECENTLY I visited a friend in the Cotswolds, Jean Larkin (née Lowe) and she had read about the interment of Maureen Swanson in the Garden of Remembrance at Himley Hall.

Jean's father was head gardener at Himley Hall and designed the garden with the then Earl of Dudley.

Jean also remembers being taken by the Nanny to the rooms that were used by the Duke of Windsor and no one else, and the china that he used. She also wanted to know if the daffodils still bloomed as her father planted every bulb.

I was unable to confirm this, as I do still sometimes visit the Hall, but not at daffodil time.

Jean lived at the Lodge near the church and attended Stourbridge Girls High School. She would love to hear whether anyone remembers her.

Your friend may also remember the surnames Butler and Bradley. My Grandfather worked at HImley and so did my Godmothers father. I remember my Grandad telling me he once once in the hall trying to open a door to another room and someone else was on the other side turning the door knob. It was Winston Churchill! Tell your friend the Daffs still bloom !
