GARY BILLINGHAM of Halesowen paid us a visit recently to share these school sporting photographs with us.

The first one, above left, was taken when Gary was a pupil at Colley Lane Junior School, and shows the football team of the 1958/59 season. Gary tells us:

"This team won every game they played except one, which was drawn 0-0 – even though we won it. The goal we scored was deemed to have gone wide by our teacher/ref Ben Kirton. There were no goal nets in those days."

The boys lined up as follows:

Back row, from left: Billy Lee, Mick Nock, Peter Webb, Mervyn Billingham, Gary Truman, Trevor Swingler, Ronnie Stott, Chris Vincent.

Front row: Garrick Grove, Gary Billingham, Derek Worton, John Askins, Keith Beech.

The second picture was taken during the 1960-61 season and shows the Halesowen Technical School rugby team, featuring a lad who would go on to become world famous in a very different discipline. Glenn Tipton, second from left in the middle row, would go on to become lead guitarist with heavy metal band Judas Priest.

Back row, from left: Peter Hill, John McVeigh, John Shepherd, Keith Harper, Mick (Lanky) Thompson, Mick Breen, Leigh Price, Stuart ___, John Jeavons.

Middle row: ?, David Windsor, Glenn Tipton, PE Teacher Ray Greenaway, Van Greaves, Gary Billingham, John (Cisco) Price.

Front row: Alan ___, ?, ___ Hart, ?.

Gary would love to hear from anyone in either photo, and can be reached via email: garybill65@gmail.com.
