‘Diamond’ lollipop men and women in Wolverhampton have been honoured in recognition of their much-loved service clocking up an impressive milestone.

The School Crossing Patrol (SCP) service celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in 2013 across the country, ensuring thousands of children have been able to cross the road safely to and from their school for the last 60 years.

The 89 lollipop men and women in Wolverhampton have been handed a special commemorative badge and certificate to mark this important milestone.

The badge and certificate have been provided by Road Safety GB and are being distributed to SCPs across the country to mark the 60th anniversary of the service.

Councillor John Reynolds, Wolverhampton City Council’s Cabinet Member for City Services, said: “Our lollipop men and women have always provided a wonderful service keeping city children safe while crossing the road.

“I am therefore delighted to congratulate the whole service on reaching its 60th birthday.

“The team may vary in age and personality but they all have one aim, which is to keep the children of Wolverhampton safe on their way to and from school every day.

“They are much loved and appreciated by children and parents so here’s to another 60 years!”
