HOW touching to see the wonderful response from the radio, TV and the entire media on the occasion of the 100 years anniversary of the horrific World War One, the bloodiest battle in living memory.

My late father was wounded at the battle of the Somme and his stepbrother lost an arm at Ypres.

My uncle, after returning from the war, went on to receive an OBE for his services to journalism.

So you can imagine my delight at having a poem I have written about this horrendous war, which claimed millions of lives, was placed in the beautiful city of Birmingham Cathedral on Monday, August 4 to commemorate the 100th year since the outbreak of outbreak of The Great War.
