A CRACKING photograph that was taken back in the 1950s has been brought to our attention by Leslie Hardy who inherited it from John Hayward of Bridgnorth, the son in law of Alan Pearson who ran a successful trophy manufacturing outlet in Wolverhampton Street, Dudley.

Leslie told us: "Among other things Alan was well known in the Tividale Darts League and together with others arranged a challenge charity match against the mighty Sports Argus Darts Team at the Red Lion pub in Regent Road (long gone). The Red Lion was run by champion charity fund raisers Lance and a young Tommy Mundon was always available for the charity nights.

"Terry Cowdell, elder brother of local boxing hero Pat, played for Tividale that night, representing The George, Dudley Road (Brades Village). I'm not sure who the chaps are in the picture representing a good old traditional Black Country boozer, but the pub could well be the Old Anchor in Dudley Port."

If you can help with the darts players' names, the venue, or both, please email jworkman@blackcountrybugle.co.uk.
