FOLLOWING your request for World War One stories my dad and my uncle were in the First World War. We lived in 11 Chapel Street, Harts Hill. They both returned from the front but came back sick.

I think my dad inhaled gas but he would never talk about it and I think my uncle had shell shock. He used to walk the streets but didn't know anybody. They were on the on a roll of honour in the church in Brockmore but I don't know what happened to that.

My dad, who was born there, was Philip Winwood and my uncle was Thomas Winwood. Hope this is of interest to your readers.

Margaret Shaw,

nee Winwood.
