Men and women unite in their love of chocolate as it tops the list of the Nation's most loved food, with snails, liver and black pudding being amongst the most hated.
It's the start of Chocolate Week and more than half (54%) of the nation cites chocolate as one of its most loved foods, a new survey by Canned Food UK has revealed.
In an-against-the-stereotype revelation, it is not just women that have a love of chocolate as the research - which interviewed over 2,000 UK respondents - shows that more than 45% of men count the sweet treat as one of their most loved foods.
Further uniting men and women’s love of food, cheese follows chocolate for both sexes, with 40% of those surveyed citing cheese as their ‘number two’ most-loved food. However, that is where the similarities end as for men the meat follows, with bacon and steak in joint third place (both 37%). Women seemingly prefer vegetarian options, however, with more than a quarter (28%) citing strawberries as their third most-loved food, followed by jacket potatoes (17%).
Snails top the poll for the ‘most hated’ foods for both men and women across the UK, with almost four in 10 men (38%) and 42% of women citing the French delicacy as the top food that they most hate. Also appearing the most-hated list is Liver (33%), Black Pudding (28%), Olives (27%) and Pickled Eggs (15%).
The Canned Food UK survey also revealed:
Those in the South West love chocolate the most, with 58% citing it as their most-loved food item
Despite ‘cheese’ being the UK’s second most-loved food, blue cheese, cottage cheese and goat’s cheese all feature on the ‘most hated’ list
Sushi features on both the ‘most loved’ and ‘most hated’ list, with 7% of UK respondents adding the Japanese dish to their most-loved list and 1 in 5 (20%) adding it to their most-hated
Those in the North West hate snails the most, with the delicacy topping almost half (47%) of the most-hated lists
Jason Hegarty, Chairman of Canned Food UK, said: “It’s interesting to see that of all the things men and women disagree on, the one thing they do agree on is food. At Canned Food UK, we consistently see ‘Meat Feast Pizza’ and ‘Jacket Potato with Posh Sausage, Beans and Red Onion’ amongst our most-downloaded recipes. I think it is obvious now who is downloading what!”
The Most-Loved, Most-Hated poll was conducted as Canned Food UK prepares to launch its simple to use YouTube Cooking Channel from November, which showcases quick and easy recipe demonstrations designed to take the time, cost and hassle out of cooking.
