I recently attended Moddershall Oaks’ Cheese and Wine Tasting event which took place in their luxurious Venue. The event kicked off with tastings followed by a delicious meal and delightful desert.
Having never been to a tasting event before I wasn’t sure what to expect, the room was decked out with a mixture of intimate and group friendly tables with waiter service and a dedicated bar for the event.
The cheeses were served one at a time and you were given a while to try each one with the six wines before you were asked for a show of hands to see which wine you thought the cheese went best went with and then the discussion began.
The wine expert, Steve Leonard from Rodney Densem Wines, spoke about both what you were drinking an eating as well as explaining which it was recommended to be paired with. There was no need to be knowledgeable in these topics to enjoy this light hearted event and you were often reminded that personal preference isn't wrong, in fact Steve disagreed with the pairings at least once.
With the wine flowing the atmosphere soon grew from curious to lively and there was conversation and laugher all around. After a few hours of tasting it was time for our main which was presented beautifully, after all, the venue has an award-winning Restaurant.
The pudding was my personal highlight of the night, but then again, I do have a particular sweet tooth. The two courses were straight from their new autumn menu and they certainly warmed me up on a cool October evening. I choose duck which was accompanied by duck fat potatoes and braised red cabbage and the Chocolate Rehab which was a superb chocolate fudge cake with plenty of treats surrounding it!
All in all it was a great way to spend a Friday night and I'm certainly looking forward to finding another excuse to visit Moddershall Oaks again.
