THE 49th Jonah Whitehouse Memorial Individual Bowls Tournament was held on Sunday June 29 at Victoria Park, Tipton.

Held each year as part of the Tipton Carnival celebrations, the contest is a popular event in Tipton's calendar.

The Gents section winner was Ron Smith (Wolverhampton) with a 21-8 score over Carl Brown (Tipton), and the losing semi-finalists were Stuart Russell (Wednesbury) and Bill Perry (Tipton).

The Ladies section winner was Linda Smith (Rowley Regis) with a 21-9 score over Doreen Davies (Kingswinford), while the losing semi-finalists were Carol Clansey (Tipton) and Annette Parton (Tipton).

The Trophies were presented by Bill Keay, chairman of Victoria Park Bowling Club.

Barry Whitehouse MBE, President of Tipton Community Association, who organised the tournament, thanked everyone for their support and also Victoria Park Bowling Club for their help and co-operation. "I'm looking forward to the 50th contest in 2015," Barry told the Bugle, "when it's hoped that there will be some special events and hopefully a bumper turn out of entrants."
