This week Wednsbury played the first of two against Burntwood, the first a cup game next week’s game starts the new season both games at Burntwood.
Wednesbury travelled to their opponents with a much weakened side due to holidays, work commitments and of course injuries, the side consisted mainly of second team players. The day started badly and went downhill from there, within twelve minutes Wednedbury were seventeen points to nil down. Then the injury jinx started to hit Wednesbury, Chris Dawes had to leave the field with concussion. THE home side added another converted try to their score. Within two minutes Wednesbury were on the score sheet, after a great series of passes Jason Allwood completed the move with a try, Harry Bird converted. Then came the try of the game Leigh French finished off a brilliant passage of play to score Wednesbury’s second try, no conversion. Wednsbury then lost another two players through injury. Burntwood added two more converted tries to finnish off the first half, score Burntwood 38 Wednesbury 12.
The second half carried on as the first had finished Wednesbury battling to make headway in the game, then came the final blow to Wednesbury Leigh French landed badly after a tackle braking his right leg in two places, all at Wednesbury wish Leigh a speedy recovery.
Next week Wednesbury return to Burntwood for the first league game of the new season, ko 3-00 pm.
