Tipton Sunday school tea party 'Treat' at Park Lane recalled

BROWSING through some old photographs I came across the enclosed rather tattered print with a caption on the back "Sunday School Treat 24th July 1942."

It is a photograph of the Sunday school children with teachers and helpers of Park Lane Methodist Chapel, Tipton, taken at the rear of the chapel.

The "Treat" was an annual tea party for the children in the school rooms.

My wife was one of the teachers, a teenager at that time, and can name all of the adults and teenagers on the back row.

They are, from left, Ethel Perrins, Barbara Richards, Olwyn Jones, Irene Male, Gwen Robinson, Mrs Foster, Mrs Wakeman, Evelyn Adams (my wife), Mr Wakeman, Beryl Robinson, Mrs Bateman, May Gibbons, Sheila Wilson, Joan Crofts.

Unfortunately she cannot remember the names of any of the children.

But it would be interesting to know if any of your readers recognise themselves or remember this wartime tea party.

We are still in regular contact with two of the group, Sheila Wilson (Mrs Foster) and Olwyn Jones (Mrs Baker), sadly now both widows.

I trust your readers will find this of interest.

Wall Heath, Kingswinford.
