BRIAN Ansdell of Gornal Wood has provided us with a wide variety of photographs from his family members and from his own youth over recent editions.
Dudley Army Cadets, Holly Hall School, Dudley's Regent Cinema and the staff of Woolworths have all been in the spotlight, but this week he turns our attention to Dudley's long-gone Park School, which once stood at the top end of Wolverhampton Street, near the junction with Grange Road.
The picture dates from 1953, and features a class which included Brian's late wife Ann Pratt, to give her her maiden name. Ann is second from left on the fourth row back. The only other name Brian can give us is Marilyn Wilkes, who is second from right in the third row back.
The Park School opened in 1896, and served for almost eighty years.
The opening of Holly Hall School in the mid 1960s caused numbers to drop, and it was finally closed as a secondary school in 1975, when it was merged with the Grammar School and Girls High School to form the Dudley School. The buildings were used as an annexe for a couple of years before being demolished to make way for the Jessons Middle School.
Can you name any of the children in this Park School photograph? If you can, let us know: write in, give us a call, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
