DARLASTON Town (1874) FC are holding a 5-a-side Tournament on Monday 17 March at 7.00pm.
After folding at the end of last season the 140 year old Black Country club is looking to raise sufficient funds to start up again for the 2014/15 season.
The Tournament is open to teams of all abilities. Darlaston Town chairman Neil Chambers said:
"We are delighted that local companies are supporting our aim to re-form the club next season. Richard Smith of Pulse Soccer & Fitness contacted us with the idea of running a 5-a-Side competition open to everyone over 16 and we thought it was a great idea.
"As part of our wish to embrace the community, a competition open to all abilities – allowing work colleagues, groups of friends as well as organised teams – fits the bill perfectly. We also agreed to have two separate tournaments, one for men's teams and one for women's teams, so everyone can get involved. The only stipulation is that players have to be over 16."
Richard Smith said:
"We are delighted to be able to support Darlaston Town in their fundraising efforts. When we heard of their plight we contacted the club to discuss supporting them with a fundraising venture.
"Our facilities are well used by the people of Darlaston and Wednesbury so we agreed to let the club use them to put on a special tournament. We thought it would be an ideal opportunity for the local community to rally behind their local club.
"We wanted the tournament to be open to anyone over 16 who simply wanted to get involved in fundraising for the club. We anticipate some well-established teams will enter but we also wanted to create an atmosphere where a group of friends could just get together and form a team on a one-off basis if they wanted to."
