WITH reference to a letter from Mr D. J. Beardsmore in The Bugle (July 3 edition) about old Bibles, I have a copy of my Great-Grandmother's Bible dated 1897.
It was presented to her, Eliza Vaughan of Kingswinford, as a souvenir of the Queen's Jubilee from the vicar of Dudley at the time, the Rev. A Gray Maitland. She kept it as a family Bible because in the back cover she wrote the date of her wedding to William Salter, also of Kingswinford, and then the dates all their children were born. This was a great help to me when researching our family tree.
I also have a certificate presented to Eliza Vaughan on her marriage to William Salter in 1898 from The Girls Friendly Society. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who may be related.
